Writers Dreaming
1. The reason Maya wrote I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is, as she says, to celebrate "the universal human power to triumph over adversity." The caged bird is an allegory for slavery in the south. The bird is trying to get out of the cage but is stuck. The bird sees others birds flying freely. The caged bird dreams of freedom.
3.Maya does not believe in talking about bad dreams because she thinks it gives them to much power, that those negative dreams feed into the drama in our lives. I believe that taking about bad dreams is sometimes good because it allows you to reflect on the negative things in your life and move past them. I do think that talking too much about bad things feed into the drama. An example of this is politics and media. These two things feed heavily into bad things and I sometimes think that can have a negative outlook on our lives.
10. Nathaniel West's quote "Easy reading is damned hard writing." was a quote that I felt like could relate to a lot. I love reading and I have always loved the idea of one day writing my own story. Writing is so hard, though. It is so hard to transfer the thoughts in your head to paper and it so hard to make it sound good too. I think the hardest thing about writing is starting. Starting a story is always the hard part because you are so eager to get the good parts that you forget how to explain how you got there.
